He's back!

Another Advent theme we will be exploring at connecT is the second coming of Jesus. This is a tough one, isn't it? It's part of the faith and so I accept it. But how long are we supposed to wait or have I missed something?

'Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail' (Rev 1:7)

If/when it occurs, it may well be in a manner in which no-one expects......

It may be easier to ask these questions in a time and a church without a particularly doomy eschatology. I get the feeling most people would agree with you Chris. I once heard a sermon that in essence was “I am ready for the second coming...are you?”. It is pretty hard to say yes-“ I am ready for this world to cease as I know it”. I have been thinking that the second coming, the end of times might be corporate... but also experienced individually. I am not sure our understanding of a linear temporality would seem to hold much weight for God. Perhaps when each of us dies it is the second coming?

Hi Chris, I was part of a panel once and they asked me about the second coming and all I could remember was the quote on a coffee mug that says "Jesus is coming, look busy!" ... I think the lady who wanted an actual answer has been praying for my immortal soul ever since :-)

Well this is an easy one!! I once went to a ‘very way-out’ Charismatic service back in the early 90’s.
The preacher had the answer to when Jesus will return!!! He even had a book out on the subject…….it’s really easy to calculate. We have a Trinity of Father, Son, Holy Spirit apposed to the Devil whose no. is 666. So…,stay with me…… if you have the Devil, 666 against the Father, the Devil 666 against the Son and the Devil 666 against the Spirit….all you have to-do is add together 666+666+666 and you get the year…………………………1998!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...Brilliant….looks like we missed it!!!!
It is no surprise that the book is not selling very well now!!!!!
